BBNaija: “I can’t date a perfect person. You are close to ‘perfect’.” Nengi tells Ozo

BBNaija: “I can’t date a perfect person. You are close to ‘perfect’.” Nengi tells Ozo

Big Brother Naija Lockdown housemate, Nengi has given yet another reason why she can’t be in a romantic relationship with her fellow housemate, Ozo.

Initially, she stated that she couldn’t be in a relationship with him because she had a relationship outside the house. She has yet thrown another dart at Ozo by saying that he is too prim and proper for her, as she prefers someone with an iota of insanity like her.

In a late night conversation with the football analyst, she said,

“You are like the most prim and proper person that I know in this world.

“In my whole life I’ve not seen anybody as prim and proper as you. The one time I dated a prim and proper guy it was a hectic thing, I can remember I told you.

“If I’m going to date someone and it lasts, it’s going to be ‘weeree’ like me [the person must have madness]. I can’t date a perfect person. You are close to ‘perfect’.”

JAMB urges candidates to adopt pin vending for 2017 UTME

- The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will adopt “pin vending” for the 2017 UTME test
- The exam body advises intending candidates to get familiar with the new approach
- Dr Fabian Benjamin the spokesperson for JAMB says all hands are on deck to ensure a hitch-free conduct of the examination across the country.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will adopt “pin vending” for the 2017 UTME test. Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the head of media and information, speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, November 2, in Lagos said that it would no longer use scratch cards, adding that intending candidates to get familiar with the new approach.

Benjamin said: “Candidates, wishing to sit for the 2017 examination, should start getting themselves familiar with the newly adopted process of pin vending by the board. We must make ourselves open to change like it is obtained in other climes.
We are no longer going back to the use of scratch card; that method is outdated. Candidates wishing to register for the examination will just make online payment and get a pin with which they can upload their data".

He continued, by saying “This new pin vending will be accessible through the options of web payment, ATM issued cards like Visa, Verve, and Master card, online Quick Teller, mobile application and Bank Branch case/card.’’

Benjamin assured that the board was working hard to redress all challenges experienced by candidates during its 2016 UTME as it was preparing for the 2017 UTME.

He said "all hands were on deck to ensure a hitch-free conduct of the examination across the country".

Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar of JAMB, had earlier revealed that they scrapped the use of scratch cards for any transactions and services describing it as outdated.

He said the board decided to do away with the method because of its consistent subjection to fraudulent practices.

AAU Students Protest over School Fees Hike

Students of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, on Friday staged a protest over the alleged increase in school fees by the management of the institution. The protesters, who were carried placards, accused the university authorities of allegedly hiking the fees by 400 percent to the detriment of the students.

They explained that the fees were increased from the initial N47,000 to N160,000 for some faculties and N200,000 and above for others. The students noted that the current situation in the country would not guarantee the payment of such an amount.
They, therefore, urged the state government and management of the school to reverse the fees, adding that the students would not want to be lured into crime or prostitution due to the inability of their parents to afford the fees.

One of the students, Ehanire Aisosa, lamented that the increment was in contradiction with the ideals of the founding fathers of the institution, which he said was ‘Education for all’.

Aisosa said, “Before the current administration, the fee was N47,000. But the fee has been increased by 400 percent; we are now paying N160,000 for the Faculty of Social Science, Management N200,000 and above N200,000 for the College of Medicine. We do not want this increase education is for everybody and not only the rich. They are trying to deprive the poor of education".

Another student, who identified himself as Eghosa said, “I told my mother about the situation yesterday (Thursday) and she advised me to withdraw and apply for admission in a different university.

“I am tired of the situation and my parents are not financially buoyant. Where do they expect us to see the money? So, they have to reduce it". But the Public Relations Officer of the university, Edward Aihevba, dismissed the claim as false.

Aihevba said that though the said increase had been introduced for fresh students by the previous administration, it did not affect other levels of students.
“What they are saying is completely untrue. There has been no increase in school fees. Even the VC, during the inaugural lecture yesterday (Thursday), made a categorical statement that there was no increase in fees,” he told Southern City News on the telephone.

Aihevba added, “Last year, when the management of the former Vice-Chancellor was on, 100 Level students were told that the fees had been increased.
“All students that were in session were to continue to pay the old fees. But those who were coming in had the chance to either accept or reject.”

The 3 years Validity of Jamb Result Has Been Placed On Hold By the Senate

The Nigerian Senate has suspended its planned amendment of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Act.

The Senate on Wednesday said it has suspended the amendment of the Act establishing the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in order to allow for adequate consultation with stakeholders.

The Senate last Thursday passed the bill, extending the validity of the result from one to three years.

The decision, the senate had said, was granted to reduce the financial burden of the examination on parents, students and JAMB.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Education (Basic and Secondary), Senator Aliyu Wamakko, confirmed the suspension to reporters during an oversight visit to the headquarters of JAMB in Abuja.

The suspension was to avoid impeding on the progress being made by JAMB in the conduct of examinations in Nigeria.

He said “Your JAMB result is only valid for one year and we thought it would be better if it is to be valid for at least three years, as that would reduce the burden on the parents, students and even the institution that is conducting the test".
I think it is good for all of us and would not be rejected by the public.

In his reaction, the Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said he was happy the senate listened to its appeal to suspend the amendment of its Act.

According to him, the extension of its UTME result to three years would do more harm than good.

JAMB ABOLISH THE USE OF SCRATCH CARDS BY THE BOARD

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has scrapped the use of scratch cards for any of its services and transactions, adding that it would now be using the platform of pin
vending to check all forms of fraudulent practices which was prevalent with the use of scratch cards.
A statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, reports the board’s Registrar/Chief Executive,
Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, as declaring in a paper he delivered during a meeting of the Association of
Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities that the use of scratch cards is “archaic”.
He also demanded that the Federal Government should revert to the former system where serving
Vice Chancellors of Universities were made chairmen of the Governing Board of JAMB.
“The decision is as a result of its consistent subjection to fraudulent practices, the use of scratch cards is archaic and it is the drive by JAMB to also promote accountability in line with government’s zero tolerance for corruption.
This new system will be accessible through the options of web payment, ATM issued cards
(Visa, verve and Mastercard), online quick teller, ATM payment, quick teller mobile application and
Bank Branch case/card,” Oloyede said.
He further disclosed that in the past, the understanding was that only serving Vice-Chancellors were made chairmen of Governing
Board of JAMB.
While appealing that government should go back to the practice from inception, the JAMB Registrar argued that since the agency is a
creation of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors, it would only be proper for them to be clearly
recognised as active stakeholders to avoid any acrimony between tertiary institutions and JAMB.
He was optimistic that going back to the old practices would “engender good synergies and harmonious relationship with a view to effectively delivering on its mandates.”
Oloyede recalled that for almost two decades, specifically between 1977 and 1993, only serving
Vice-Chancellors were made Chairmen of the Board of JAMB, from Prof Oladipo Akinkugbe, VC
University of Ilorin; Prof Donald E.U Ekong, VC University of Port Harcourt; Prof Adamu Baike,
VC University of Benin; Prof Mahdi Adamu, VC University of Sokoto and Prof Isa Mohammed, VC University of Abuja.
He said, “This practice which promoted harmony and quality inputs on the Board’s matriculation
activities have since been forgotten or neglected. The appointment of the chairman of the Board
could be restricted to only heads of tertiary institutions in Nigeria perhaps in rotational basis among the Vice-Chancellor of Universities,
Rectors of Polytechnics, Monotechnics and
Provosts of Colleges of Education.”
