Pete Burns, best known for his band’s hit “You Spin Me Round,” died on Sunday. He was 57.
According to a statement put out by his management team, the “Dead or Alive” founder “died suddenly yesterday of a massive cardiac arrest.”
Burns, who also built his fame by appearing on several reality television shows, most recently showed up on the small screen in an episode of “Celebrity Botched Up Bodies.” His most notable television stint however, was his 2006 turn on “Celebrity Big Brother.” The 80s popstar finished in fifth place and went on to make repeated television appearances throughout his life.
According to The Sun, Burns was slated to appear on "Loose Women," an ITV focused on topical discussions with a panel and celebrity guests, on Monday, but his management cancelled the appearance, saying the singer was "no longer available."
According to a statement released by those close to the singer, Burns suffered a heart attack.
The vocalist and songwriter was also well-known for his androgynous appearance, which he candidly admitted was enhanced by plastic surgery. Still though, his tendency to skirt gender norms while it certainly turned heads, also served as inspiration to his many fans.
“He was a true visionary,” the statement, posted to Twitter read, “a true talented soul, and he will be missed by all who loved and appreciated everything he was and all of the wonderful memories he has left us with.
“We have no more words, we will make a further statement when we have a chance to come to terms with our devastating loss.”
